During the exhibition of yatch which was held from 1st to 6th in Genoa Italy, the first 3D printed fiberglass boat was launched, which was made by one Italy company of MOI Composites.
This 3D printed yatch with length 6.5m, width 2.5m, weight around 800kgs, is equipped with GPS system and 115CV engine. The body shell is designed to be a opposite-triangle shape. The tip part of the yatch can be used as control panel, and the other part can be turned into a slope by which the users can be lead to on the board. There is a water-drop shaped sofa, and it can be used as a seat for driver or a bed.
It is said that this yatch was made by fiberglass materials. Moi Composites company used its new continuous fiber producing technology to build it. They use their parter Autodesk’s two sets of Kuka Quantec high precise robot to mix the fiberglass and the thermoset resin. Therefore a product with traditional FRP product’s strength but with much easy method of process, more saving the production time and cost, was launched.
This kind of continuous fiberglass reinforced thermoset composite product has the properties of stronger, light weight, and long-term service. Each single printing is a sandwich structure with PVC core, polyester resin and fiberglass fabric. After production, the surface is treated and then decorated.
The design and the printing took around two months. This yatch has won some prizes since it occurs.
